How do I get internet connection on my Ipod touch? I do have a wireless router at home.?
I have bars showing on my ipod touch but it's not connecting with the router. I have a Cisco Linksys wireless router WRT110.
You need to make sure your iPod Touch wireless settings are the same as your wireless router settings otherwise you will need to change the settings on one or the other device to make them work together.
If you have other wireless devices connected to your router, then they will also need to be changed if you change any of the router settings. So start off by changing the settings on the iPod Touch first to see if that works.
The iPod Touch will only use the 802.11bg wireless standard so if you can see bars then your router is set up on either the "b" or "g" standard. The 802.11g standard is better and faster.
If you also see a pad lock next to the bars on your iPod Touch then the network is locked and secured and you will need to know the wireless security protocol used by the router and the password for the wireless network to get in.
Find out which wireless security setting your Cisco Linksys wireless router is set to and using. The WRT110 can be set to any of the following depending on how it was set up: WEP, WPA, WPA2, and Wireless Protected Setup.
The iPod Touch will only work with one of the following wireless security protocols: WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA Enterprise and WPA2 Enterprise. You can try each one in turn until you find which one will work.
To do that on your iPod Touch you will need to:
1. Goto Settings -> Wi-Fi
2. Make sure "Wi-Fi" and "Ask to Join Networks" are both "ON"
3. Goto "Other..."
4. Enter in the name of the wireless network that the WRT110 has set up.
5. Select the security option, try "WEP" first off.
6. Go back to "Wi-Fi" and slide the "ON" to "OFF" and then back to "ON" again. This gets the iPod Touch to search for any new networks in the area.
7. If you see the network name listed then select it and enter in the password for the wireless network. If a tick does not appear next to the network name, then repeat the process above with the next security protocol (WPA) and so on.
8. Once you have a tick next to the wireless network name, you are connected.
And yes, I do agree with you that it is a pain in the butt to connect the iPod Touch to a wireless router. Maybe Apple can find a way to make it easier with their next generation of iPod Touches!
