Were Considering Moving to Port Isabel Texas, How Is It Out there?
We are a white couple in our early 40's and we're thinking of buying a home in Port Isabel Texas. Were trying to find out everything we can about the area from housing and jobs to the sturdiness of the local economy. We do not smoke, drink or do drugs of any kind. We have no kids (but do have 2 dogs and a cat) and were looking for quiet neighborhoods and low crime areas. We both have experience in business management over the past 15 years. We have no debt other than our current home loan and our car payment. The home loan will be paid off before we get there and we'll have $75,000.00 to bring with us. If anybody has information on Port Isabel or other areas nearby that would be idea to live in, please let us know. Anything about the area, its culture, the people and the economy would be greatly appreciated.
Well, it's awfully close to Mexico, and you only have to watch the news to see what sort of problems go on around border towns.
If I were in your situation, I'd be looking at Rockport, Texas. Still on the coast, but considerably farther north. It's a terrific little town with cute shops, lots of restaurants and fishing and a low crime rate. It's close enough to Corpus Christi to be convenient for shopping/medical care/cultural events, but is definitely a small town.
