can a wireless modem receive more power to make it work faster?
i have a sprint wireless modem. every time i look at a movie in full screen. it seems like it hasn't got enough power to catch up. My sprint modem is 3g with 5mb. i want to be able to watch my movies without that problem.
The speed is governed by the ISP's broadcast speed and by the distance you are from the closest tower.
Now if your signal is greatly weakened inside from what it is immediately outside of the building in which you wish to use the device, there are things you can do. However you need good, solid dbA strength measurements to validate this. Should the problem result from signal loss inside building (commonly seen with metal buildings), you can install external recieving antenna, an amplifier, and a broadcast antenna inside. In this case you are compensating for signal loss due to building material attenuation of the signal. However if the external signal is weak, and the problem is not due to building material attenuation of the signal, these devices will do very little if anything. You must put the external antenna at the strongest receiving point (usually above roof top), be sure to use very low loss coax connecting cable, properly use lightening arrestors, and finally the proper internal broadcast antenna. This entails some measurements and some calculations to make sure the proper amplification will be achieved and this is far from a simple "cook book" type of application.
I have examined several cases of believed signal weakness. After doing the measurements, I have determined in about half of the cases, the root issue is that the best availalbe external signal is too weak to be markedly improved - which indicated that no equipment will help. This is why I am very cautious herein as I do not wish to mislead you.
If the equipment will help, be prepared to pay over $500 for the hardware and about that much for install. It is not lightweight.
