Problem Converting Internal SCSI to External?
We had a server at work go kaput. The main drive is SCSI. We obtained an enclosure to convert it to an external drive for the new server which does not have a SCSI card. I've connected the ATA and 4-wire power cords. I connected the main power cord to the enclosure and pushed the power button. The enclosure's fan started, but not the drive. I then tested a 4-wire power cord from the new server on the SCSI drive. Still nothing. Is the drive beyond recovery?
you said: "I've connected the ATA and 4-wire power cords". how have you managed to connect a 40 wire ATA cable/connector to a 50 or 68 pin SCSI connector on that drive? anyway, if you plugged the hard drive to a power connector (if I understood well) and it still doesn't spin up, it's more than obvious it's - alas! dead...
PS (for the other respondent): SCSI drives may be linked up to 15 on a cable! they're not master/slave, but (SCSI) ID differentiated! and the asker just told everyone out here that in the new computer there is NO SCSI board to connect it either way!
