Replacing radiator on 2001 Ford Taurus?
I need to replace the radiator and the Haynes manual says to remove from the bottom. I looked at some forums and one said to remove fan assembly, tilt radiator back and then remove from top. Does anyone know which one is really accurate? Also need to flush the system, should I flush before or after installing new radiator? I appreciate your help very much
The thing is, I have been doing at least 90% of my own maintenance for many years. Recently though, I took the vehicle to a repair shop because of an overheating problem. Was told the radiator was clogged and he could replace radiator and flush for $500, but I know I can buy one for $200 and save. He also said Taurus radiators have to be removed from bottom. That's when I asked the community about taking it from the top
Flush it before replacing the radiator to keep from getting rust and debris from the block into the new radiator core. According to the Ford service manual the radiator is to be removed from the bottom of the car. I have done them both ways and it is easier to go out the bottom if you have access to a lift.
