External Scsi Adapter
Solid State Disk Recommendations?

I'm interested in replacing my SCSI drives with an internal or external SSD option. I've read other posts indicating that SSD drives can be a little finicky.

I have a dual processor HP workstation that runs Windows XP Pro. I am inclined to buy a SATA adapter and a compatible SSD, however, I"m not sure how all of that works and if the SSD can be a bootable drive. It seems SSD drives are predominantly external???

Anyway, the SSD thing is completely new for me. In my past life, I was a systems engineer, but I haven't kept up with the technology.

Any info/recommendations you can provide will be very helpful.

To summarize:
I'm looking for a SSD implementation I can add into my 5 year old computer to serve as the main hard drive (bootable). I might use an external cheap drive in addition, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. A 64 GB SSD drive will probably be suitable for my needs.

Thanks,
Mike

I'd steer you away from them unless you are VERY sold on them. Especially on an older computer.

They're much more expensive, much smaller, and not really any faster or better on power usage right now.

Next year will be the time to buy SSD.

Right now I'd steer you toward a WD VelociRaptor drive. Fast, cheaper, reliable, bigger.

You could get two of these for what it'd cost you to get an SSD. Assuming your system could handle it, you could set 2 up on RAID 1 and have full data redundancy in the unlikely event of a failure.

It's a disk (not SSD) but very very fast, quiet, and oddly enough 2.5" with a 3.5" heat sink around it.

If you get a SATA adapter, you should be able to boot fine, but you may need to select the bootable add in card as the default boot device in your bios.
