Help with Tune-Up on an '83 Camaro 305 Crossfire F/I?

I'm doing a Tune-Up with wires plugs belts, the whole 9 yards. First off, where should i put the jack stands to keep the front of the vehicle up? next is there any easy way to get to the plugs? It took me 20 mins just to remove and replace the plug at #1 cylinder! and thats right up front!. do you think that working underneath would be better? and when i bought the distributer cap it came with a tube of silicone or something? where do i put that? on the boot? and Please let me know of any tips or pointers you may have. It's my first time doing this and there is nobody that can help me if i mess up. Thank you so much

That tube of stuff is dielectric grease and goes on the spark plug wire ends and on the plug wire contacts at the distributor cap (if you have enough). New plug wires come with some usually but you can buy a large tube of it at the auto parts for nearly nothing and also get a tube of anti-sieze for the spark plug threads at the same time. This stuff is silver and goes on the spark plug threads and enables you to remove them in the future! As far as doing the plugs from underneath you will just have to try both ways and see which suits you and your particular set of tools best. Probably it will work out that some plugs are better from the top and some from the bottom. I like to put the jack stands under the outer ball joints if they will fit securely there. You don't need jack stands unless you are going to work from underneath. Be sure to do one plug and wire at a time so you don't get them mixed up.
