Wireless suggestions?

I have a wireless card in my desktop.
Either it's crap, or my computer is badly positioned in my room. Unfortunately, there aren't many options in regards to location. I was wondering if anyone could give me a guide on how I could further increase my wireless signal. (my entire family get the full wack of my 50mb broadband and i'm pretty jealous )
I thought about getting a TP-Link TL-ANT2405C 2.4GHz 5dbi Indoor Omni-Directional Antenna but, it is worth it?

Is that wireless card good enough in terms of range, or are there better ones out there? Will the other option be a more cost effective way of extending my range?

Your wireless signal can be affected by many things, like interference from all other electrical devices. The main problem with internal WiFI cards is that they tend to be low in your computer and surrounded by other components that ALL give off an 'Electromagnetic' field. This usually tends to make WiFi signals drop off to the point of destruction.

Getting the antenna you posted from Amazon SHOULD increase your signal reception but only if it can be put in a place with less electrical equipment. On top of a cupboard or shelf is usually good.

Just be sure to check your card's antenna is the same fitment as the extension and that, more importantly, the old antenna actually comes off!

The other crucial thing to check is what the router has to compete with in terms of signal path...this is usually only effected by things like microwaves, TVs, pipework or big radiators. Try to move the router to a more open space if possible, if not you could also look at getting an antenna for the router if getting one just for the WiFi card it's self doesn't work.
