In-Trunk device that requires 4 wires and an ethernet-type cable?
In my Camaro, there were a few wires not hooked up under the hatch area (in the trunk). One set of wires that was tucked away under the plastic trim was an ethernet style cable bundled with 4 wires. Each of the wires ended in a special white plasic plug (the kind that will only fit into certain holes, used for specialized applications).
I need to know what type of device uses these connections. I was thinking maybe a nitrous controller, with the phone cord being some type of display.
What is this?
#1, they wouldn't be in the trunk. #2, the diagnostic port is under the steering wheel.
My guess would be either some left over wires from a stereo amplifier or wiring from a fully integrated radar detector system.
I have a high end Soundstream sub amp and it has all the normal hookups as well as two phone cord (RJ-11) connections to adjust top end gain remotely and to link two amplifiers into a "bridged" mode.
Escort radar detectors (same company that makes the Valentine 1) sells optional remote displays that use the RJ-11 connector. They also sell full car radar detector systems where sensors are mounted under the front and rear bumpers.
Could be a nitrous controller...if your car ever had nitrous it would be very evident under the hood. There would be a NO2 rail that injects the Nitrous complete with solenoids and regulators etc. If they removed all this, there would still be plugs of some kind on the intake side of your engine.
Other than that....I can't think of any aftermarket audio system that uses this type of connector...most have their own proprietary connections.
Good luck....could try tracing where the other end of the wires go...also you could test if any of them have voltage on them when the car is on...
One last thought, could it be the remains of some kind of backup warning system or backup camera?
