I have a 2002 Dell Inspiron 5100 that my grandpa gave to my brother from his work about three years ago. About a year ago, my brother randomly said the internet stopped working and stashed it in our cabinet. I've been in front of it for three hours trying to figure out what's wrong. It says that the IP Address is automatic, and I connected the ports from the laptop to the modem, so I don't see what's wrong. I even put in the 2005 netgear disk that comes with the modem, and it just takes me to an offline version of the netgear site. I checked the manual, but I don't understand the problem. The modem is hooked up to another computer, and the computer works fine (we also have a Motorola - Vonage Ethernet box, which is connected to the modem). I don't understand what is wrong. please help me..
I use a rcn modem but I still have comcast software I never changed the modem driver maybe you can burn a copy of whatever software your using in the other computer or download it off the internet either way I suggest new modem software also its along shot but try unplugging your modem for 15 minutes and plugging it back in it wont hurt the computer running but it might just get the new one up and running
