can i use wireless router that has a network server?
I purchased and want to install an Engenius ESR9850 300Mbps Wireless N Router wireless router and two ERB9250 range extenders on a small business network that has a server. I was told that this would create a conflict between the wireless router and server trying to assign ip addresses to the different hardware in the network?
It's just a configuration question really. You can pick to have the router issue the DHCP addresses or have the Server issue them. You really don't want both of them issuing the addresses.
Either of those can be set. The router has the ability to either have DHCP off or on and the server has the ability to have DHCP off or on. Turn off one or the other!
If you decide to turn off the router's DHCP services then set it on a static IP within the range used by the servers DHCP but "outside" the "pool range" used by the DHCP server (in other words in the subnet but not in the DHCP ranges).
Done it many times and either way works but you do need to know how to setup the system and yes you only want ONE DHCP server per network or you will have problems.
