how to view available wifi networds on laptop? help me connect to wifi please.?
I have an older hp omnibook 900. It has an Airlink 101 wireless card in it. The previous owner said he used it to connect to the internet. I"m unsure on how to get to the view wireless networks screen. In an answer earlier someone said to go to start, then connect to. But I don't seem to have that options. If I go to settings I have the options of "control panel", "dial up networking", "printers" and "taskbar adn start menu". If I choose control panel, then network, among my choices are airlin 101 cardbus adapter, dial up adapter, tcp/ip airlink 101..... and tcp/ip dial up adapter. I am running windows me. I have my laptop with me at work, and we run all our computers off wirless, so shouldn't I be able to find that network? It is not secured. Can someone please tell me where to find the list of the networks that it is recieving a signal from. Thanks.
Ugghh.. well Windows ME is one problem, I am not sure if it will run correctly. Using that old of a system I would suggest upgrading your wireless adapter. For $40 you can get a g broadband wireless adapter and it will solve many of your woes (that is if it is compatible with ME). Your 101 is an 802.11a adapter you should be able to browse networks using the Airlink utility but again, I do not remember if the old cards had the roaming feature. If I remember correctly on the first adapters I needed to know the SSID in order to connect. I would suggest finding a new adapter and make sure it works with ME.
