Can I set up a multiple router network?
I have three wireless routers, only one of which is currently in use. I also have several ethernet cables.
The current router for the network is an Orange Livebox (I mention this because it seems quite hard to operate; requiring a CD to connect a new PC to the network, so it could cause problems) which is downstairs. Considering my house is quite big and there are several laptops upstairs, is it possible for me to connect another router (placed upstairs) to the Livebox via eithernet cable to extend the signal range? If so, what are the necessary steps to do so? If that can be done, is it then possible to connect a device to the second router via ethernet (ie an Xbox console)?
a lot of routers (linksys anyway) have the option of being setup as a gateway, rather than a hub, which allows it to connect to the wireless router you already have and broadcast the signal out at full strength
But to answer your question, yes, you can plug a router into a router. Just plug the ethernet cord into an open port on the current router, and plug the other end into the modem port on whatever router your planning on using.
