Can you Network an External Hard Drive?
I know you can with a Network Storage adapter. My Question is, I have a Wireless broadcaster that I currently do not use. If I plug the USB hardrive into a USB HUB, could I plug the Broadcaster into the other side and broadcast or am I missing a key component to that?
You can network the external if you plug it into a computer that is connected to the network.
You cannot network the drive by plugging it and the wireless router into a USB hub.
A hub is a type of network device but a USB hub is not in anyway a network device.
To use the HDD as a network device you would have to plug it into a computer and then use "file and printer" sharing to share the drive.(right-click on the drive in my computer) Then you would be able to access it with any other computer (the other computer has to have file and printer sharing enabled also) as long as the computer which the HDD is attached to is turned on.
You cannot use a external HDD and connect it directly to the network unless it is specifically designed for that. Those involve a storage adapter OR have the capabilities built into it.
