I have a corrupted coax cable (for digital CTV/DVR) between a central junction box and the jack I want to use. Instead of running new coax, can I feed the good signal from the cable company through (otherwise isolated and unused) twisted-pair phone lines? Do I need to compensate for the impedence difference somehow or just get the signal through the proper connectors/adapters? Please answer specically for CTV/DVR, not networking. Theory is great but have any of you actually seen it work? Thanks!
I guess I should have mentioned - running another coax involves $$hundreds in sheetrock/paint. I can't go external with the cable due to homeowner rules and that would require digging under concrete to get to the cable company source anyway. The twisted-pair is pre-installed and not being used. I can't use the existing cable to fish a new line because the installer put in a splitter behind the sheetrock between two studs. Back to rabbit ears and a VCR? 
I'm inclined to say this won't work.
1. not enough bandwidth in the phone wires
2. impedance is all wrong
3. no shielding makes the phone wire susceptible to noise
4. no shielding turns the phone wire into an interference source
Of course, you can always just try it and see whether it works. But my best advice is to call your cable company and get them to install a new cable run.
You actually have CC&Rs which prohibit you from running external cable? That sounds unusual to me. There's no way to make the cable invisible (or less visible) from the street side of your house/condo? Like run it at ground level? Paint over it? Anything? I live in a planned development with CC&Rs, and one of my neighbors self-installed a satellite dish and painted over the cables. You can see them if you look, but none of us neighbors would think of making a fuss over such trivia.
Alternate weird thought: do you think you can maybe use the phone wires to pull fresh TV cable through the wall? Then replace the phone jacks with cable jacks?
