how do i use a citizen band transceiver?
GE Model No. 3-5909B how do i use the nobs and buttons
I don't know the model, but there should be a channel selector for channels 1-40. Those 40 channels are designed CB frequencies from the FCC. Another knob is volume (self-explanatory) and another should be squelch - which you can play with to reduce interference or increase it. (The squelch control is why professional radios do not have static when not transmitting and receiving white noise.) Yet another control should be a switch for hi or low power transmitting. Play with it, as short range communications work better low power, and of course hi power is used for long range communications. The pound meter on the box shows how strong the incoming transmission is, and multiple CB's can be used to triangulate and pinpoint a transmission.
Some other basic info about using a CB:
1) Channel 9 is the emergency channel, you are restricted from using it except for emergency purposes to contact your local police and fire (who should be monitoring the channel). This is federal law from the FCC.
2) Proper breaking into a channel is prompted by "breaker, breaker" followed by the channel # you are on, and a short reason why you are breaking in.
3) You should have a "handle". A nickname to use on the air.
4) CB use is governed by the FCC and there are laws and restrictions on what can be done and said. For one - don't swear!
