Windows freezes on boot with secondary HDD plugged in! (Has to do with Windows 7 Backup)?
First, some back story on my problem:
I tried using Windows 7 backup. I used the default settings and backed it up onto my D: drive. It failed at about 70%. Tried again. Still failed.
I ran out of time, so I decided to just forget it. I deleted the incomplete backup files (Some C: backup file and MediaID.bin). When I came home and turned on my computer, POST took longer than usual and I noticed it didn't find my SATA 2 drive, which is my D: drive. My computer ended up freezing while booting windows. After some trial and error, I found that unplugging my D drive stopped the freezing.
Now here's my question: How do I recover my D drive if I can't get my computer to boot while it's plugged in?
I can't seem to hot swap my internal SATA drive - it'll freeze when I plug in the data cable. I'm thinking of buying an external drive case to see if that'll work, but if there are any other suggestions... Don't hesitate!
The Windows operating system constantly refers to the registry to get information about all of the components such as hardware and software which are installed on the computer. The registry tells Windows what to do and how to access the various programs, files, and processes. However, the registry can contain bad information which sends Windows off doing useless tasks or running unneeded routines. Sometimes errors occur including the freezeing. Other times the system slows down. Because of the sheer number of factors that can affect the registry, there’s no one size fits all approach. You can’t just go into the registry and remove the bad information because it’s nearly impossible to decipher which information is good and which information is bad. That’s a job better suited for software. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://computer-e-book-money.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!
